Pretty Mary Lake Link

This 14km long link is an example of how we could bring internet service into remote under served areas.

The link is from Tefler hill Caledonia to a low open hill near Pretty Mary Lake our antenna heights are 85ft at Tefler hill and 20ft at Pretty Mary Lake.

The link had to overcome considerable vegetation that would stop any other technology but was considerably aided by a clear open reception site, a blueberry field ideal for our purposes.

The TVWS equipment connects at the following TCP link speeds & data rates

 6Mhz channel  = 9.4Mbps   TCP  MCS6 19.5Mbps

12Mhz channel = 19.3Mbps TCP  MCS7 43.3Mbps

18mhz channel = 23.2Mbps  TCP MCS7 57.8Mbps

24Mhz channel = 27.0Mbps  TCP MCS5 69.4Mbps 


*24Mhz channel widths and greater are allowed under specific conditions under FCC regulations and are under review in Canada (current max 6Mhz)


This link test was conducted with a small 8di antenna and 6m portable antenna mast, based on our other work speeds between 30 & 40Mbps TCP should be possible with larger fixed equipment.

In this particular area there are 3 year round under-served houses and a number of seasonal houses that could be served with such a link at relatively low cost compared to other alternatives.

These tests were conducted with the new improved version of the radios the GWS5000, all other tests unless otherwise stated were conducted with GWS4000 radios.
